# 1127 Twist Julia dressed in 2nd year one piece nurse's uniform (1970)
Julia debuted in 1969. She came in two versions, #1127 Twist 'n Turn Julia and #1128 Talking Julia. She was made from the Christie head mold. She shared Barbie's wardrobe but did have four outfits of her own. The Sears Exclusive gift set Simply Wow (#1594) was released in 1969. Julia was based on Diahann Carroll's character from the TV show "Julia" who played a T.V. nurse and single (widowed) mother. The show ran from September 1968 to March 1971.
The first Julia doll in 1969 came as a Twist 'n Turn (#1127) doll with a two piece nurses uniform. In 1970 it was changed to a one piece uniform. Also in 1969 (#1128) Talking Julia debuted. She talked in Diahann Carroll's voice. She came in a gold and silver one piece jump suit, gold glitter open toe heels, and with the same short straight hair. By 1971 talking Julia's hair style changed to a fuller style hair, and she had a little darker skin tone. Everything else remained the same.
